The trip from Puerto Iguazu to Buenos Aires was the best one we had, save the movie “There will be blood”, which was terrible. We were served potatoes and a yucky meat, but I was still full from linner. Then we got some wine and coffee. The bus was cold, but wait, they gave us a blanket and pillow! It was fabulous. Not to mention, the seat reclined further and were bigger. I still woke up throughout the night, but just had to change positions and was then fine. I woke up around 10, which was just in time for bus breakfast, which I love. We were engaged in a conversation with Hasil about Bollywood, and Rebeca had jut mentioned “Bride and Prejudice”, when the t.v. switched on and the movie Pride and Prejudice came on! So that was wonderful, as well as interesting to see how they subtitled the dialogue because that older English just didn’t really translate.
We got in around 1:30, which was actually about on time, another perk of cama. Ionna and Jon left, and we found Angie at the Mesa de Informes, which was really good b/c her phone wasn’t working and I don’t know what we would’ve done if we hadn’t found her. We found restrooms, because we had all tried to hold it from the bus because that’s one bus constant: bad bathrooms. Then, we proceeded to find our ticket from BA to Mendoza. Pues, the company we first talked to didn’t have tickets out until 7 p.m. that night! NO, we knew we had found tickets from around 2 or 4. So we kept looking. And it turns out all the little company kiosks had the same on the other side. So on the other side, we talked to the same company, and they were like, yea we have one leaving at 2:40 (which at this point it was 2). So we bought our ticket, solo ida para mi, and then headed downstairs. We sat at the restaurant, mainly wanting to kill time, but also wanting to grab some quick food. We were going to order at the bar, but the guy pretty much wouldn’t let us. So we ordered empanadas and such, being very clear that we only had 20 minutes. Pues, 18 minutes later, we’re desperately looking, and he brings it out. When Rebe and I made it to the bus, I bit into my cold empanadas. But a lo menos, I had food that was better than bus food. So ate, dozed, got a snack , and then we watched “The Departed”, which the title was in Spanish but the movie was still in English.
After that, one of our busmates complained and requested a movie in Spanish. So just as the guy was putting in the movie “what happens in vegas”, he took it out and put in Untraceable, which was in castellano. With my headphones in and concentrating, I was able to understand most of that. The problem was, it was a creepy movie which freaked me out as we were travelling across more deserted areas. After that, we were expecting dinner. Pues, the lights went off, it got really cold, and around 11:30 p.m. we realized we were not going to be fed. So we tried to curl up, sans blankets, and sleep.
Oh, it was horrible.
We were hungry and cold, and every time the bus stopped we were right by the drafty door. I went through patterns of curl up, cramp, stretch, freeze, curl up, etc. I finally dozed off, and was awoken by Rebe shaking me because we made it to Mendoza.
